Bloggers4Labour Social VI ? - 6 comments

It's been a while since we last met up, but I think a Summer social event would be a good idea. No canapés in the Guardian offices for us, just a drink and a chat in the pub: what could be finer?

As usual, it'll be open to each and every Labour blogger, as well as not-necessarily-Labour friends of this site.

Venue: we've 'done' London a few times now, and Brighton and Manchester once each. How about this: given that I also need a holiday, if you'd like to suggest an alternative UK venue that you reckon will bring in a few B4L-ers, please suggest it in the comments.

Possibilities include: Birmingham, Oxford (still?), somewhere in Yorkshire, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff.

Dates: tbc, but within the next month.

Let me know what you think, below.

P.S. If you ever fancy hosting your own event under the B4L banner, wherever you are, let me know and I'll try to help you organise it.

Failing that -- Haltemprice and Howden -- the new frontline of the socialist struggle and confrontation against the rule of capital over labour.

Remember people -- the person running the show here thinks that a vote for a tory piece of vermin is a step forward!

Adjust your antennae -- tin foil is now expensive due to demand.

And by the way -- I am still waiting for your response to this post:

Thick little labour tory supporting vermin should be shot on the spot.

How old are you Andrew? Serious point. It is important as to your current stupidity.

For that, I'll make it a wet Monday night in Byker. Plenty more life than Rio, as we all know.

You've got me on the DSTPFW post: I did suggest a response but didn't provide one. I'll see what I can do tomorrow... On first read you do seem to have produced a uniquely good defence of the principle of varying the detention limit, but without really explaining why the '42' figure is both important and necessary: once upon a time I defended the 90-day figure here at B4L. Why indeed not raise the limit indefinitely if the authorities can be relied upon, and the defence of the one can be infinitely played off against the security of the many?

It has to be a question of balance (and if Davis, Benn, etc. believe it's 'pure principle', they're being unrealistic), but for the time being I've decided that I'm not going to offer any additional trust by supporting any extension. I could and should revisit that decision as circumstances dictate.

I'll be 32 on the 23rd - as they say, there's no fool like an old fool.

Now, any more comments about the get-together?
