More slowness - 7 comments

Apologies for the slowness of the site today, after a couple of days of more-or-less normal operation. There has definitely been an upsurge in junk traffic since Sunday afternoon, though I'm no longer convinced that's the whole story.

I will (continue to) see what I can do to alleviate the problems, though the assistance of well-meaning geeks would be greatly appreciated, if you fancy getting in touch.

Incidentally, blog-aggregation (including feeds and email newsletters) is working fine, it's the web-site that's affected.

Update (14 Feb): How's it looking now - better?

It would appear that everyone using blogger comments facilities have been getting a massive upsurge, even with WV turned on.

Yep, it hasn't been happy for a couple of days now (as StatCounter makes all too clear). As they say, it's not getting it up that counts, it's keeping it up, so I may have to fiddle about a bit more over the next few days. Still, it's substantially better than it was (which isn't saying much).

I've made this point at The Daily, another Labour blog, and I'm going to make it here:

I must say it’s mightily odd to see an anti-Livingstone attack ad (its so ingloriously Americanised) displayed on a Labour blog.

Wonders shall never cease…

Tory 18 Doughty Street must be roaring with laughter. Still, if you need the money, chaps…

I realise every man has his price - I just hope yours is not too low…

Well, I'm not entirely happy about the ad for the ad (though I haven't watched the thing itself), but I'm sure our readers are intelligent enough to take it on its merits.

Frankly I think it's a bit rich for someone using a service that I provide for free, and at considerable expense, to chastise me for trying to recoup some of that. Any acknowledgement of the fact that we're not being bankrolled like 18 Doughty Street are, hmm? I don't know why you bother sometimes, Benjy.

Benjamin does have something of a point, in my opinion. 18 Doughty St are using space on Labour blogs to attack the Labour mayor. I think we have to take some degree of responsibility for what ads are shown on our blogs.

No one has to stop taking ads. I've asked MessageSpace to take Doughty St ads off of the daily, which they were very happy to do.

I am thinking about it, Graham. If I'd ever watched Doughty St I might be in a better position to decide whether it's suitable entertainment for intelligent people at all. Think I'll post about it...
