Blog Awards: voting open - 11 comments

The polls are now open, and available to all site users. Just login, or register if you don't yet have a username.

Why all this? Well, (a) having a login is useful in itself: it provides you with the Dead Socialist Watch script, the ability to add our bloggers directory to your site, and so on. Also, (b) I respect the results of polls much more when I know they're not completely open to manipulation. Well, yes, you have to trust me, but you can also be sure that I won't let the results be contaminated by repeat-voting, and by sock puppetry.

Anyway, log in, and the green box will direct you to the election page.

There are ten categories, and you have ten votes to allocate in each (100 in all). You can give all ten votes to one candidate, spread them any way you like, and even vote "None of the above" if you would have preferred an alternative candidate. However, once you've voted, you cannot reallocate your votes.

I believe the voting system is stable, though it's perhaps more clunky to use than it should be - and will be in a couple of days when I've had more time to polish. That said, I've started allocating my votes, and it works like a charm.

Please let me know if you have comments, especially if "something funny happens".

I'm afraid something funny has happened, I got all my votes through to Community Activism fine, but then all the polls disappeared when I pressed back, and now I just logged in again and they're still missing.

All,

Sorry, DB was out of connections (I need to look at this, across the board), but your data is fine and everything's back up now. Will keep an eye on this.

Just one thought, B4L - should you not mention when the polls will be closing?

The original plan was for polls to close after a week (midnight on the 9th). Unless people really can't get in en masse (and I'm not yet convinced this is so), I'll try to keep it at that.

GCM & NO, sorry, the last three notification mails (from Blogger) came at the same time, so have only just seen your comments. When you say "don't seem to be recognised", do you mean that you could log in, but now can't, and if so, could you let me know what (if any) message you get? I can't say I've noticed any login problems myself. Could you try again? Does it still not work?

It says 'user not found/incorrect password'. I'm pretty sure I'm using the correct login, although I'm perfectly willing to accept the strong possibility of fuckwittery on my part.

GCM, could you mail me your username?

similar probs here (though also well prepared to believe it's a case of fuckwittery on my part). Try to login, but the form is pre-populated with usename hiatusuk and no password. enter my details and get dumped back at hiatusuk login with a message saying wrong password (have even resorted to pasting the password from my B4L signup confirmation email, but still no luck). Using Firefox if that any use to know.
cheers, John (username johninnit)
