For the avoidance of doubt, this is nowt to do with me.

By coincidence, I've been sounding out my regulars on what makes for good site design for group blogs.

But it is only a coincidence. No, really. This time it IS a coincidence. I promise....

Hi - this was rather prematurely announced by Guido - but it's launching soon.

On Recess Monkey I find my audience gets a bit antsy whenever a story isn't silly, seditious or salacious and it also tries not to be overly partisan and will highlight stupidity from all politicians, Labour included - so a number or staff and former staff of Labour MPs have come together loosely to start a group blog - Labourhome.

However, there is no restriction on who can write on the site - in effect anyone who wants a miniblog on Labourhome can have one - but the readers, browsing through the "diaries" on the basis of subject or by date - get to vote for good pieces and the best pieces get bounced to the front page. It's all very democratic and designed so that the editors' political views (and egos) don't flavour the site too much.

We just want everyone on the left to feel welcome to express their views - it's a bit of a reaction to seeing the Euston Manifesto bods and their opponents conducting a web-wide slanging match without reference to the unifying context that we all want to end poverty and save the planet (don't we?).

Anyway, I hope you'll like it when it starts. We certainly don't want to be competitors to Bloggers4Labour, which is a marvellous resource for people like me. Labourhome is more for people who don't see themselves as bloggers and I suspect we will regularly refer to B4L pieces as the start of discussion pieces on the site.

We've already recorded our first MP podcast for our launch, which I hope will be of interest. If you want to find out more, please drop me an email. alexhilton@gmail.com

regards,

Alex

So it's not involving either of you? Alex is doing it independent of B4L? Gah! What's the boy thinking?

Still, good idea, and, um, let us know what else is going on...

This is true, and I must be honest and say that "Gah!" was my first reaction.

That said, I had my chance to turn B4L into a group blog/publication and failed to deliver (I did ask, cajole, and try a few things out over the past year, but there was no great enthusiasm) so it was only a matter of time before someone jumped in there. Not that that is all LH has to offer, I'm sure, we'll just have to wait until tomorrow to see. Hopefully LH and B4L will draw close, but again, we'll have to see how it develops.

I have a little toy to launch on the site when I get a free day, and other developments can be expected from our side of the fence before too long.

Labourhome is live! Please start using it before Guido get's 200 Tories to register and swamp it with right wing trash.
