Live Bowls - 4 comments

No offence, but why does the BBC inflict Live Bowls (from the Hopton-on-Sea stadium in Norfolk) on licence payers, when there are perfectly good Open All Hours and Keeping Up Appearances tapes lying idle in the BBC archives?

I was going to make a comment about substituting one form of old person's entertainment for another, then remembered I was chuckling away to The Good Life on Tuesday so can't say anything :-)

I've watched a bit of it and, yes, there's obviously some skill involved, but it just seemed a bit unhealthy having these young people - even if they look about 20 years older than they are - playing in a tournament sponsored by a provider of care homes, before an audience of people with white hair, all sat in a regional leisure centre.

I would contrast this very strongly with darts, which is skilful (insofar as I'm rubbish), and is best played socially.

The Good Life has been repeated to death, but still has a little charm, while the ones I mention seem to be entirely mind-numbing, and therefore absolutely perfect for BBC1 on Sunday afternoons.

Sport? On the BBC? Are you sure that you weren't watching Sky by mistake?
