A general theory of Labour - 1 comment

From A General Theory of Rubbish, and coming via Eric, here's a pretty good reason to be getting behind Labour:
The Labour Party (despite everything) retains its character as a labour organisation. The other parties do not. The pathetic Liberals are nothing but Tories without their kicking boots on and act as Tories whenever they gain any power. There (sic) potential for any radicalism is non-existent. I'm not wasting any time on them.
F*ck them.
Good stuff.

I have to say that when I voted Labour last week, it was ultimately for the 'idea' of the Labour party.

I support Blair, but I disagree with some of the important decisions that have been made in the last eight years. And to complicate things, my MP is Clare Short, a fabulous MP and true humanitarian who never-the-less fell from glory in my eyes over her nasty and dangerously selfish campaign against Blair.

I sniffed around the other candidates which didn’t help much. I know what the Tories and UKIP stand for, and they were never going to get my vote no matter what loser they put up. So I took a look at my Lib Dem candidate, Mr Khan, and found him distinctly uninspiring. It made me realise that part of the Lib Dem problem is that they have no real spring board for their policies. You know the idea behind Labour’s policies, you know the idea behind the Tories and UKIP et al, but what’s the idea behind the Lib Dems? They got a good share of the vote this time, but only because they were used as a cloth to wipe a bit of Labour off the board.

So the choice was between Labour and spoiling my ballot paper. No contest really. I might be called scribble, but this time I preferred a nice big clear X.
